Foxconn Intern Claims to Have Sabotaged PS4 Manufacture

According to a snapshot of a deleted forum post, the interns at a Foxconn manufacturing plant in Yantai, China have sabotaged the PS4. This was first reported on the IGN forums here. Unfortunately, the forum was locked.  The IGN forum author tried to elaborate more here. Here is a snapshot of the actual post:

20131114_124449_e650c8399febabd25cbdzEE0NNfts8bL

This manufacturing plant has made world news for its mistreatment of the staff, and Polygon did a story on it over a month ago. The intern notes that because Foxconn didn’t treat them well, they didn’t treat the PS4 well. He/she says “The ps4 console we assemble can be turned on at best.” This could explain some of the “blue light” problems. These PlayStations can turn on, but do not actually display a picture. This issue was reported on here. There is no physical evidence to indicate that the sabotage actually occured or is in any way linked to problems with a very small percentage of PS4s, but it is worth keeping an eye on.

so you’re one of those people waiting for Half Life 3 I suppose? I never played the games, fyi, so don’t take it in offense that I ask.

          • Matt

            HL3… eh.

GTA V PC… Yes. Soooooo ugly on current gen.

          • Eric Louvros

How dare you, you are a loser, “HL3…eh.” are you serious!!!!!???? Half-Life is one of the greatest franchises of all time, that single comment you made alone let me know that you are a fool and are not to be taken seriously.

          • Matt

Nah… I’m pretty sane and logical. There’s nothing new Half-life 3 can do to innovate the FPS genre at this point which is why it’s on indefinite hiatus.

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Short Answer: Valve is having an issue with perform cap. Long Answer: Valve won’t tell anyone what else is going on that is preventing them except that the game is in bits and pieces.

At least we’ll be able to turn our Xbox One consoles on for more than 10 minutes.

          • GunsAndTheBeast

hey dont be rude. just because ur xbox is $100 more with low fp. does not make it any better alright. mr. obama but at least you have a brick so you can fix that pay wall that you broke with your huge protruding forehead. that seems to have caused low resolution.

          • Clinton Weyand

Consumerism 101: You pay for what you get. Meaning, cheaper isn’t always better.

          • Eric Louvros

not a matter of the hardware being poor….fool, it’s a matter of the manufacturer not doing their job, not to mention like I said above….only .4% of the consoles released were affected…

          • Eric Louvros

you do realize that the amount of consoles affected by that is about .4% of the entirety of the PS4′s right? that’s probable the lowest rate out of any console gen, not to mention it’s not because the hardware sucks, it’s because the people manufacturing it literally messed it up on purpose, we’ll see how your Xbox One does come launch day, buddy. :D

          • Syres

Wrong .4% was the prelaunch failure rate of people that got the PS4 early. Sony doesn’t know how bad the Failure rate is post launch. If Amazon Reviews are anything to go by the PS4 has over a 50% failure rate……

          • Eric Louvros

definitely not true, everyone I know that has one hasnt had a problem that’s including me, you forget that a small minority can sound like the majority as well, your numbers are far off sir.

          • Syres

I’m going off the number of just the Amazon reviews, Nothing else. It has 983 Five star and 491 One star reviews. That is 50% of the people that did reviews not counting the Four, Three, and Two star reviews. Also you are talking about Minority vs Majority, you are basing your opinion on a small handle full of friends. Is this true for the whole million units that sold probably not but it is most definitely not anywhere as low as .4% since that was a prelaunch figure only counting the review consoles and taco bell consoles and other early receivers.

          • Andrew Teoh

Maths op, that is ~500 of ~1500 reviews, so not 50%, but rather, 33%

          • Batsu

Sir, your math is terrible. If there were 491 1 star ratings and 983 5 star ratings excluding 2s, 3s & 4s then that means that no more than 491/(983+491) = 0.3331*100 = 33.31% of the reviewers gave a 1 star review. Not 50%. Adding in the 2s, 3s , & 4s drives that percentage down even further. To be clear this is only a sampling of the consumers that purchased the PS4 and only a sampling from one retailer. Consumers with poor experiences are more likely to report that experience through reviews. This causes the percentage to fall even more although by a margin I can’t articulate. Those are the simple unbiased facts.

          • generic-user-name a.k.a GUN

Don’t be daft, obviously the people who got a broken one are going to go onto Amazon and complain, everyone else will be too busy playing their new PS4s.

          • justerthought

You are assuming a 50% failure rate going on 50% of those that made a comment had a problem. 100% of those affected will comment but less than 1% of those not affected will say they are ok. The picture is distorted by those who have a justified grievance.

Sony sold 1 million and they expected 0.04% duds, that is 4,000 bricks. 4,000 comments on social media is going look like a disaster when it is normal for new hardware of any type.

The number of sales we are talking about in such a short space of time is huge and it’s all under the spotlight of social media that can go viral within hours. Not an easy job to manage for any manufacturer.

We need to wait and see how it all pans out over time to get the true picture. MS fanboys are too eager to jump on it to aid their cause, but it’s a just a concern at the moment, not a fact that more than half of one percent r duds (0.04%).

          • Mike Smith

Says who? They haven’t even shipped yet. The stupidity of some people…

Like a nice burn in test on the consoles before they go out the door would have been a GOOD IDEA.

  • Convergence87

This makes no sense. Foxconn is used by ms apple sony and sooo many other companies and foxconn is known for their tough conditions. So if this happened why did they take it out on sony products and not for say apple ones(much bigger orders with tighter deadlines)

    • JeffQChen

because Chinese hate Japanese more than the Americans. Apparently the
average ppl don’t know USA is behind everything Japan has

      • Rav-dogulous

The US didnt have anything to do with the PS4? Apart from Mark Cerny lol

        • Matt

          AMD

      • Richardo

The Diaoya/Senkaku Island Dispute reignited unresolved anger Chinese have for what Japanese military did in China in WW2. Japan has attempted to heal relations with $50 billion (not accounting for inflation in the early 1970s) , and 10s of billions in aid year on year in the 1980s and 1990s and early 2000s, and numerous “softloans” over the decades at lower rates than would be found elsewhere, and official apologizes over the years. Chinese staterun media as continues to be the case controls the flow of information and from what I’ve read doesn’t publicize this information.

Japan should just give China the island to maybe some degree heal the wounds.

        • http://channelsixgaming.net/ Edward Polack

Then what does Japan do once it gives the islands back? China still won’t be happy and still demand compensation from Japan. South Korea has been milking Japan for years over WW2.

Japan is finally standing its ground. It has apologized a dozen times and both China and South Korea still keep using it as a political tool.

South Korea has finally started to work with Japan. China needs to do the same.

          • perry

the island is belong to China, why you said that is a political tool?If I borrowed you something but you didn’t give me back,my calling is a political tool?

          • http://channelsixgaming.net/ Edward Polack

The political tool is the card China is using to keep making Japan feel guilty for WW2. Japan has apologized on numerous occasions, yet China won’t let it go. Why is it ok to forgive Germany for its past transgressions but not Japan.

China is bullying every country in Asia right now. How can they claim land that doesn’t belong to them. The Spratly Islands is the perfect example. China is the furthest country away from these islands, yet China somehow thinks they have the right to claim the islands solely for itself. If China felt that the Senkaku Islands were rightfully theirs, why didn’t they petition for the islands following WW2? Oh thats right, because the islands never belonged to China. There are residents on the other islands of Okinawa Prefecture that have residents who lived there before the war.

It’s only a matter of time before China is internally brought down by its blend of Capitalist Communism. It will implode.

MS isn’t exactly known for quality products.

Last gen Xbox 360 fixed with X clamps, Oh we fixed with bigger heatsink, Oh we fixed with Halo Edition, Oh we fixed with Elite edition, oh damn here just take a 3 year warranty hopefully that covers it

      • John Pombrio

The manufacturing company used the wrong lead free solder that would break and crack over a time of months to years. Tough to catch that during production testing.

      • Abba Okoro

Yes but that was the only the case just only because the console was RUSHED

but in the case of the Xbox one it had almost 4 years of R&D

    • Orlɛanž

Don’t celebrate just yet. 5 more days to go before release. I’d wouldn’t talk cr*p just yet.

Awh, the X1 was made at this very same place….. yeah and it’s not even out yet. Lets see how it does. Lord knows how MS last launch went.

  • Dave

I like how the original post in Chinese was included. it was so helpful.

  • alchemistx24x7

Child labor to build there ps4, opted for a internal power source which gives off major heat rather than an external power source, DDr5 which gives off massive amount of heat, a small box design with hardly any vents only the back has, small fans to keep it cool, 1 of 2 things will happen 1.over heating or 2. your gpu getting overheated by the power source combined with DDr5 your internal boards are getting fried….In closing that is one hell of a faulty design..Thank Andrew house he picked the design said it on spike during launch nite…lol..

    • Guest

Mark Cerny is the laughing stock of the industry now, just like his crap game KACK.
Adam Boyes, Andrew House and Jack Tretton are all hypocrite f*cks anyway. Serves them right!

    • zblacktt

They make the X1 also….. now what? Everything else you typed out is false and I’m not even going to address it.

      • alchemistx24x7

Einstien they made the 360 this time around MS went with another company that don’t practice force child labor who tends to do a half ass job but it is cheaper..lol…

    • dgvgege

I will never understand the stupidity behind Sony with the Playstation products. Did they ever learn from past mistakes using internal power supplies? PS3 used it and that was a major reason for the heating issues. The PS4 would be fine, if sony would ditch the internal power supply for external like Microsoft uses for Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Copy and Pasting what someone on the official PS forums said, because it was worded pretty well: “Mistreatment or no, Sabotage is NOT understandable when you have millions of unsuspecting people buying the product who have nothing to do with that. not a problem with the hardware then, just a problem with manufacturing.

    • PattonFiend

Not quite. The heat inside that thing causes the PS4 to shut off sometimes within minutes it gets so incredibly hot inside of that compartment.

  • Michael Padilla

This has nothing to do with anyone hating Sony the interns in question were being forced to work for Foxconn specifically building PS4s the interns were not building Xbox Ones or Iphone 5s or anything like that they were only working in the Sony PS4 factory. Which is why they targeted Sony product cuz they had no other alternative. Read the Original story of the interns and see or yourself what Foxconn was doing to these students was F’ed up if it was in UK or US we’d be burning that factory to the ground but china the students get told to shut up and get back to work good for them for finding a way to get back at Foxconn sorry for all you PS4 owners though.
